Tenby councillors have given a financial boost to the volunteers of a community scheme set up provide Emergency Life Support in the area by agreeing to fund two new defibrillators for the town.
Volunteers from the Tenby and Saundersfoot Community First Responders recently met with Tenby town council to give a presentation on the work they do.
The group, which received charity status last summer, is able to respond to 999 calls and give life saving treatment while an ambulance is on the way.
Councillors heard how two new defibrillators were being placed in Tenby that could be accessed by the public 24 hours a day, with one to be located at Greenhill School and the other outside Tesco Express on High Street, to go alongside other defibrillators already located at Tenby Rugby Club, Tenby Leisure Centre and The Clicketts.
Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter told her colleagues that the group and the defibrillators were of ‘vital importance’ to the people and visitors to the town, before proposing that they them a donation to provide for two new defibrillators, which she suggested could be situated at the De Valence in Upper Frog Street and Tenby Sailing Club down at the harbour.
“It was an excellent presentation given by the First Responders and we were all impressed by the life-saving volunteer service that they carry out, and acknowledge that they are totally reliant on donations to fund their vital work,” said the Mayor, Clr. Laurence Blackhall.
“Donating to this cause will provide a very positive signal for them and hopefully they can attract more volunteers too,” he added, with councillors all in favour of the donation.
