Firefighters and police have been praised for the way they handled a blaze at one of Tenby’s most popular chip shops this morning (Tuesday) - during a time when the town was packed with visitors heading to the beach to soak up the sun, on what was one of the warmest days of the year.
The fire at Park Road Fish and Chip Shop led emergency services to warn motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area, as the premises is situated on the main route out of the seaside town, with Park Road adjoining the South Parade, which is on the one-way roadway into Tenby alongside the town walls.
Several fire appliances were in attendance at the incident, with traffic diversions in place, to alleviate congestion.
Tenby town councillor Mrs. Christine Brown praised emergency services for the way that they reacted to the incident, on what was a busy day in the resort, with many heading to the seaside, to enjoy the hot weather.
“Got to say how brilliant the fire service, police and community safety officers from Pembrokeshire County Council were, including our own town clerk! Well done,” she remarked.
A spokesperson for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 11:06 we received a call reporting a fire at a commercial premises on Upper Park Road.
“Crews from Narberth, Pembroke Dock and Tenby Fire Stations were mobilised to the incident.
“Upon attendance, crews dealt with a well developed fire on the ground floor of a commercial chip shop.
“Four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets (one using foam), one main jet and thermal imaging cameras were used to tackle the fire.
“All persons at the property were accounted for.
“The fire was extinguished at approximately 12:00 hours. Crews remained on scene for some time to continue to dampen down before eventually leaving at approximately 2 pm.”
