A lady from Cardiff has been banned from getting behind the wheel of her vehicle for 18 months after being caught drink-driving in Tenby.
Thirty-year-old Sufia Mohamed, of Llandaff North, pleaded guilty to driving her Audi A3, whilst exceeding the prescribed limit of alcohol, when she appeared at Haverfordwest magistrates court on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told the court that police officers made a routine stop check on the defendant in her vehicle on Serpentine Road, at 3 am, on September 9.
“Her husband was a passenger and she told officers she’d had a vodka and lemonade, but she’d obviously had more than that, as the reading she gave was 75 microgrammes in 100 millilitres of breath,” he explained.
Defence solicitor Mike Kelleher told the court that his client had been out for a celebration and met up with friends in the town.
“It was never her intention to deliberately drink and drive, she’d had a glass at lunchtime and then met up with friends and asked for non-alcoholic drinks, but she drunk what was put in front of her.
“It wasn’t a deliberate flouting of the law, she didn’t know that she was drinking alcohol,” added Mr. Kelleher.
Magistrates disqualified Mrs. Mohamed from driving for 18 months and fined her £160 for the offence.
She was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
