Visitors who attempted to pitch up and camp at Tenby’s South Beach for an overnight seaside stay were sent packing by police last night (Thursday) after their vehicle got stuck in the sand.
Tenby’s Neighbourhood Policing Team posted a picture on Twitter of the said car in the South Beach car park which like most other coastal parking facilities across the county, has been closed since the start of the lockdown restrictions.
“Travelling form Hereford to go camping is not an essential journey! Moving signs from a closed car park resulted in this car getting stuck! Please ensure all travel is essential,” stated the police.
The trip from the would-be campers resulted in fines and costs of £430 and a return trip home.
Pembrokeshire’s Chief Inspector Louise Harries said of the incident: “I still cannot understand why people are unable to just #StayHomeSaveLives. Why on earth would you want to put yourself and others at risk?
“Well done team continuing to conduct significant patrol hours and engagement and the sometimes required enforcement.”
