Anti-social behaviour in Tenby has led to benches being taken away and gardens being locked until issues can be resolved, town councillors heard this week.
Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council the town clerk Andrew Davies told members that he’d been liaising with Pembrokeshire County Council’s environmental services operations manager Neil McCarthy over matters concerning two areas in the town where youths had been causing vandalism and anti-social behaviour.
“There has been lots of complaints of anti-social behaviour taking place in the last couple of weeks at Brother Thomas’ gardens on Crackwell Street,” he said.
“Locks have been broken to the gates previously, and Mr. McCarthy has agreed to lock it up properly, so it can’t be accessed over the winter period.
“There has also been reports of lots of anti-social behaviour at the Lions Gardens, so the solution appears to be to take away the benches from there, which seemed to go a long way to sorting similar problems at the top Croft Gardens.
“In this instance over the summer, wooden borders on the flower beds have been kicked off and set fire to,” continued Mr. Davies.
Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown suggested having a word with the police inspector to see if these areas could be patrolled more regularly.
