Well-known local couple Wyndham and Joan Brace will be celebrating 70 years of marriage on September 11 - and to mark the occassion of their platinum anniversary they will be holding a party inviting family and friends to join them.
Wyn was born in 1929 he lived with his family at Devonshire Drive until he was 10 years old, then they moved to Broadfield Farm.
Joan was born in Cardiff in 1928 after her family moved there from New Hedges.
When Joan was 18 years old she joined the Land Army and was deployed to Woodpark Farm, New Hedges, where she served for two years.
At this time Wyn was working at Rumble Way Farm looking after the race horse ‘White Flag’ who belonged to Billy Lawrence. This is when Wyn and Joan met.
Joan left the Land Army and they got married on September 11, 1948 at Pembroke.
Making their first home at Cross Park New Hedges, their first daughter Christine was born, and 18 months later their son Micheal arrived. Then they moved to Crackwell Farm, Penally where they had their third child Gillian.
Wyn and Joan moved to various farms before moving to Cardiff in 1957.
After working on the farms all his life Wyn began a completely new path and became a long distance lorry driver. Joan worked at the post office until she had her forth child Gareth and later her youngest son Jonathan in 1965.
In 1970 their first granddaughter was born and a few years later they all decided to move back to Pembrokeshire.
Wyn was reunited with his family and worked alongside his father Bertie Brace at Broadfield Farm Caravan Site while Joan ran the site shop. Over the next few years the family grew, Wyn and Joan was blessed with another 12 grandchildren.
In 1989 they went to live in St Florence enjoying their retirement by holidaying in Cyprus, where they have many found memories and socialising with family and friends.
In 1990 their first great granddaughter was born and they celebrated five generations of family.
Wyndham and Joan made their last move to Tenby in 1995. Wyn carried on his love for gardening growing flowers, vegetables and winning Tenby in Bloom 10 years in a row.
Joan likes spending her time knitting, making jam, baking and of course looking after Wyndham.
Now having 22 great grandchildren Joan has lost count of all the little cardigans and jackets she has knitted over the years.
Most recently Joan has knitted mermaids, little dolls and lots more to help raise money for Saundersfoot School.
In 2013 Wyn and Joan’s first great great granddaughter was born giving them another five generations to celebrate.
They now have five great great grandchildren!
Wyndham and Joan’s family mean everything to them and nothing makes them happier than having lots of visits.
They have also made some very special friends along the way.
The couple will be celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary on Saturday, September 15 at New Hedges Village Hall, at 6 pm, with all family and friends are welcome.
They do not want any gifts but if you would like to make a contribution there will be a charity box on the evening.
