Tenby Borough Council passed a motion seeking a meeting with the Minister of Transport, Mr. Fred Mulley.

The motion was passed in relation to the ongoing matter regarding the Whitland to Pembroke Dock railway line which British Rail had been trying to close for a number of months.

Clr. Michael Williams, who seconded the motion, argued that British Rail were concocting passenger usage figures and were passing them to the government.

The Town Clerk said there was a danger that the £101,000 grant for keeping the line open would be rejected.

Two residents from Pembroke Dock were included in the Queen’s New Year Honours List.

Pembrokeshire’s Chief Fire Officer, Mr. G. D. Walsh was awarded an MBE, while Miss Rose Medwell, the chief cook at South Pembrokeshire Hospital received the British Empire Medal.

At a meeting of Tenby Borough Council’s harbour standing committee, it was agreed that Tenby Harbour Users Association appoint four members of the association and three members of the Tenby Sailing Club to express their views on the proposed harbour charges.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food approved the increase with no objections.

The game was described as a match that was lacking spark. Despite both teams playing well in defence, the quality from the United shone through.
