Thursday was the better of the two club walking days this week. The wind was gusty, with some short but intense showers of rain. Between the showers it was quite pleasant, with spells of sunshine. 10 Nordic walkers assembled outside the youth hostel at Skrinkle for a figure of eight walk. Paul led them towards the Army Range, but they had a good soaking before they had gone very far. They continued west on the Coast Path, but only as far as Precipe Bay. From there they turned inland past Hill Farm, to reach the old green lane from Manorbier to Skrinkle. By now it was quite warm in the sunny spells. Passing the entrance to the Army range for the second time. they completed a loop around the Skrinkle area before arriving back at the start. They rounded off the morning with an excellent lunch at the Potting Shed at Manorbier Nursery. Two of the men in the group must have worked up a good appetite, because they polished off two truly enormous all-day breakfasts.
The Saturday walk was blessed with plenty of rain right from the start. A surprisingly large contingent of 25 all-weather walkers gathered outside New Hedges village hall, for a choice of two walks back to Tenby. Kym supported by Chris, led the smaller Speedies group down Waterwynch Lane then up the steep hill to Allen’s View. Pat backed by Donna, led the larger Steadies group via Slippery Back into Tenby. The Steadies turned up Gas Lane and onto the Croft, where they were promptly overtaken by the Speedies, who then arrived at Church House first. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the coffee morning organised by St Mary’s Handbell ringers, who were fundraising for the wonderful Ty Hafan children’s hospice.
Tomorrow, Saturday, there will be the usual choice of walks from Lawrenny Quay. For those who have booked a place , the minibus will depart Upper Park Road in Tenby at 9:30. For more information about Steps2Health programmes please visit www.steps2health.org.uk.
