Two local friends, Alison Pearce from Narberth and Rachel Griffiths originally from Tenby, took part in a local cycle and raised £2,320 for British Heart Foundation Cymru (BHF), with match-funding received through Barclays Bank.

Alison and Rachel took part in the Carten100 cycle ride from Cardiff to Tenby in June.

Alison Pearce, who works at Barclays Bank in Carmarthen, said: “We really enjoyed the cycling challeng; it was my second Carten100 event, Rachel’s first, and fortunately the weather conditions were excellent as the event had to be postponed due to bad weather in May.”

The BHF funds research into heart and circulatory conditions, including heart diseases, stroke and vascular dementia, along with risk factors including diabetes.

Jayne Lewis, BHF Cymru’s fundraising manager forSouth West Wales, said: “I would like to thank Rachel and Alison for taking part in the cycling ride.

Heart and circulatory diseases kill one in four people in Wales which is devastating. BHF Cymru is funding pioneering research, to find vital treatments for people living with these conditions.

Too many lives are lost in Wales each year, and we’re determined to do everything we can to help the 375,000 people across Wales who are fighting a daily battle with heart and circulatory disease.

Thanks to the support of Rachel and Alison, BHF can continue to fund research into these conditions. ”If you would like to do a cycling challenge or would like to help BHF Cymru help beat heartbreak forever, please contact [email protected] or 01554 891 500 or go to www.bhf.org.uk
