Birthday donation to Arthritis Care Wales

By Observer Reporter in Charity

Andrew Stephens, from Clynderwen, recently donated £216 to Arthritis Care Wales having requested donations in lieu of birthday gifts. An equal sum was also donated to the charity CRY.

Arthritis Care Wales is part of Arthritis Care, a leading UK wide voluntary organisation working with and for people with arthritis. Services include award-winning publications, helplines, community info points, mentoring, campaigning and peer support through local branches, groups and an online community. A recent campaign has raised awareness of the issues faced by children with arthritis.

There is no specialist paediatric rheumatology centre or full dedicated multidisciplinary paediatric rheumatology services in Wales - the only home nation without such a centre. Arthritis Care believes children with arthritis in Wales deserve better. The charity has been lobbying for change calling for a tertiary multidisciplinary paediatric rheumatology service to be established in South Wales and an improved provision of services in North Wales. As a result, a motion has recently been passed by the Welsh Assembly in support of this need.
