Lawrenny fun festival

By Observer Reporter in Events

The West Wales Maritime Heritage Society joined in the annual Lawrenny fun festival to Cresswell Quay on Saturday. Organised by the Lawrenny Yacht Club, it is a purely fun event, with some boats being decorated overall.

The society took two boats, dressed overall and joined in the fun. Others took highly imaginative boats, one was from the children’s comic series Thunderbirds. This entry looked like Lady Penelope’s pink Rolls Royce car. It was quite comical to be overtaken by a pink Rolls off Lawrenny!

There were an assortment of pirates and south Sea Islanders complete with palm trees on board, even one boat contained Donald Trump, the Statue of Liberty and Uncle Sam. Uncle Sam had a distinctly blue beard, it is not certain if there was any connection with the other notorious Bluebeard of legend.

Large numbers of people turned up both by sea and by road and filled up the little quay with people talking and enjoying the summer sunshine, as well as the hospitality of the proprietors of the Cresselly Arms pub.

The West Wales Maritime Heritage Society plans to send more vessels next year and promote Pembrokeshire’s splendid maritime history.
